maumau art residency is the outcome of all the experience that have been gained from various levels of cultural industry. on the back streets of beyoğlu, there lies the cukurcuma district known to locals as a vital and the most artistic area in istanbul. the sözcük apartment, where the maumau art residency is based, contains five floors; three renovated and two new-constructed ones. it is designed to accommodate and provide space for production for artists, writers, curators and researchers. both local and international artists can apply for a residency.

the main idea of maumau art residency is to provide the residents an artistic environment in which they can work on their own projects and also to allow them having the experience of working together with other residents from different artistic domains. maumau art residency also encourages the residents to collaborate with local during the artistic production.

one can apply to maumau artist-in-residence program, maumau writers-in-residence program or maumau self-directed residency.
